A Tarot Spread for Starting a Business
When to use this spread
Every business starts twice — once in enthusiasm and once in paperwork — and founders' readings tend to arrive between the two. This spread respects both: it honours the seed while auditing the soil, the gap, the risk, and the first milestone that would prove something.
It pairs the suit of fire's optimism with the suit of earth's arithmetic, which is roughly the founder's whole job description.
The layout
1 · The seed
What is the venture's true core — the thing it exists to do?
2 · Your resources
What do I already hold — skills, savings, allies, unfair advantages?
3 · The gap
What is genuinely missing between here and viable?
4 · The risk to respect
Which risk deserves real mitigation rather than bravado?
5 · The first milestone
What is the smallest result that would prove the idea real?

How to read it
Read position 1 twice — ventures drift, and founders who can state the seed in one sentence make better decisions downstream. Position 3 distinguishes the missing-critical from the missing-nice-to-have; fund the former, postpone the latter. Position 4 wants respect, not fear: name the risk's actual mechanism and its actual mitigation. And keep position 5 humble — a first sale, a signed letter of intent, ten real users. Businesses are proven in small denominations first.

Frequently asked questions
- Can tarot tell me if my business will succeed?
- No — success gets built, not read. What the spread structures is founder-grade reflection: the core, the resources, the gap, the risk, and the first proof.
- What cards are good omens for a new business?
- The Ace of Pentacles (a material opportunity with roots available), The Magician (resources ready to combine), and the King of Wands (vision with follow-through) — read as energies to supply, not guarantees.
- Should I read before quitting my job for the business?
- Read, yes — but let position 3 (the gap) and position 4 (the risk) do their sober work, and pair the reading with an actual spreadsheet. Reflection and arithmetic together beat either alone.
