The one story hiding inside the Major Arcana
Today, the Major Arcana — and the single most useful idea for learning them: the 22 Majors aren't a list. They're one story in order, and the traveler is The Fool you met on day one. Readers call it the Fool's Journey, and it falls into three acts.
Act I — learning the world (cards 1–7). The Fool meets the figures who shape every early life: The Magician (skill), The High Priestess (intuition), The Empress and The Emperor (nurture and structure), The Hierophant (tradition), The Lovers (choice), The Chariot (willpower). Act I ends with a confident personality that thinks it has life figured out.
Act II — meeting the inner world (cards 8–14). Life gets more honest. Strength, The Hermit, the Wheel of Fortune, Justice, The Hanged Man, Death, Temperance — courage, solitude, luck, consequence, surrender, endings, balance. This is the act where the outer wins stop being enough.
Act III — meeting the depths (cards 15–21). The Devil, The Tower, The Star, The Moon, The Sun, Judgement, and finally The World — the hardest and most luminous cards: what binds us, what breaks, what heals, and what it feels like to arrive. Then the journey circles back to zero, ready to begin again.
Notice what this does: every Major now has an address. The Tower isn't a scary card floating in space — it's the crisis of Act III that makes The Star (hope) mean something. Position is meaning.

Pick the act that matches where you feel you are in some area of your life. Read one card from it — for Act I The Magician, for Act II The Hermit, for Act III The Star — and ask: what does this figure know that would help me?
